Process

From the architect's file to the roll-former.

Every job follows the same spine — integrate, model, engineer, output — with the depth and hand-off points agreed up front. Here's how a job moves through Detailing Works.

  1. Set up the engagement

    Before the first job, we agree how we'll work together. On an end-to-end engagement we set up — or, for start-ups, establish — the platform, libraries, standards and workflow, and take on the client interface. On a black-ops engagement you hand us access to your platform, your design standards, title blocks, connection rules and export profiles, and we adopt them exactly, so our work is indistinguishable from your own.

  2. Receive and integrate the architect's documentation

    A job arrives as a drawing set, a model, or both — PDF, DWG, Revit, ArchiCAD, IFC. We import and set out to the architectural grid, reconcile roof, ceiling and floor geometry, overlay the engineer's slab and structural details, and identify every clash, gap and inconsistency in the documentation.

  3. Resolve the framing intent

    We propose a framing strategy — load paths, truss types, panel breaks, bracing approach — and raise clear, drawn RFIs to the architect, engineer or builder where the documentation needs a decision. Nothing is assumed away; questions are asked once, early, and in writing.

  4. Build the structure in software

    Walls, roof trusses, floor systems (stumps, bearers, joists, bracing, mid-floors and cassettes) and ceilings are modelled and detailed in Vertex BD or FRAMECAD, and any structural steel in Tekla Structures, using your section library, connections, panel limits and naming. Panelisation follows your transport, lifting and roll-former constraints, and DFMA thinking — part counts, standard details, assembly sequence — is applied as we go. This single model is the digital twin, the source for everything that follows.

  5. Engineer and check

    Members are sized, bracing and tie-down resolved and connections specified to AS/NZS 4600 and the applicable AU/NZ loading standards. Every package goes through an independent check before release; where formal certification is required, documentation is coordinated with registered engineers in the relevant jurisdiction.

  6. Output CNC files, BOM and documentation

    CNC production files targeted to your machine type — any manufacturer — and, for factory-built clients, to the automated lines for cladding, linings and sub-assemblies. A full bill of materials for every item in the model, structured for site and exported for your ERP and accounting systems. Plus the shop floor drawings to run production, structural steel fabrication drawings for the structural steel fabricator, factory drawings, site layouts, bracing and tie-down plans, cutting lists, take-offs and certification packages. All in your templates and export profiles, delivered into your shared drive, job management or ERP system.

  7. Feed back and refine

    Feedback from the factory floor and site goes back into the standards and libraries, so the next job runs cleaner than the last. On black-ops engagements this stays entirely internal; your customers only ever see your brand.
